Understanding that no woman desires to have an abortion, our Center staff and volunteers are prepared to listen to, care for and resource women to identify a life-giving alternative to abortion. Women or couples who choose to continue their pregnancies and parent their babies are invited to attend the Center’s LEAPP classes. These 12 week classes cover a broad range of topics from fetal development to childbirth, bonding with your baby and the important role a father plays in his child’s life. During these classes, participants develop friendships, gain valuable knowledge, find support, have a chance to begin or develop a personal relationship with God and earn “First Care Points” which they can redeem in our baby closets.

Our closets are stocked with everything from bibs to cribs and new parents can be sure their baby’s needs will be met. All items in the closet are donated by supporters just like you through individual or church donations. Many churches host baby showers to keep our closets supplied with the things every new mother wants to provide for her baby. It is amazing the difference it makes in the hearts and minds of these young women who know they can provide their new babies.

Approximately 50% of the clients coming to a First Care Pregnancy Center will have a negative test. Terrified of being pregnant, many of these clients are eager to learn more about the benefits of abstinence, the consequences of STDs and the beauty of marriage. Our staff and volunteers are trained to discuss this topics with clients who are not pregnant and can also offer them support groups and ongoing encouragement as they commit themselves to refrain from sexual relationships until marriage.

In every unplanned pregnancy there is also an expectant father involved. Often overlooked and dismissed, these young fathers can feel powerless to influence the woman’s decision or to provide for the life of their unborn child.

Through a grant with the National Fatherhood Initiative, we have been able to pilot Fathering programs in two of our centers. New fathers have the opportunity to talk with a seasoned Christian father and enroll in a parenting class just for men called 24/7 Dad. Through these classes, they meet other new fathers, discuss common concerns and learn the basic skills they will need to be effective, loving fathers and role models for their child. Expanding these classes to every center is a goal for the ministry, but men are needed to facilitate classes.

One of the things we share with the women we serve is that we are multi-dimensional beings with physical, emotional, mental, social AND spiritual natures. We emphasize that the spiritual is the foundation for all other natures and yet often, the most neglected in our culture today. As we have developed a relationship with the women we serve and as we have earned the right to be heard, we engage them in a discussion about their spiritual backgrounds, beliefs, questions and desires. It is our privilege in the Pregnancy Centers to hear their stories, answer their questions and offer them the hope of Jesus Christ.

As a parachurch organization it is not our mission or goal to disciple these new believers, but to have avenues of connection to the local Body of Christ where they can be loved, cared for and grow in their new faith.
